Problem on Win8

I found that the current PostgreSQL installer can not work on a Win8 system.

It turns out that there are a lot problems when install Postgre on Win8 system. So the best choice is install from binaries: Download PostgreSQL Binaries.

Install PostgreSQL on Win8 is quite challenging. Both the 64bit installer and binary won't work, even my WIN8 is 64 bit system. The safest way is using the 32 bit installer. It finally worked.


msvcr120.dll and msvcp120.dll

In some environments, when you launch pgAdmin program, system will prompt that msvcr120.dll and msvcp120.dll is missing, the two files is needed for programs developed in Visual Studio 2010, and they are not part of Windows system, if your system don't have them, you need to download them. They are easy to find and can be downloaded from internet, after you get those files put them to the directory that contains executable files like pgadmin3.exe.

When successfully installed, open the pgAdmin, it would looks like this:

When you get to this step, PostgreSQL already running on your system.
